Adorable Baby Elephants Line Up for Milk at Sri Lankan Sanctuary

Since its founding in 1995, the Elephant Transit Home, also known as “Ath Athuru Sevana,” has been devoted to rescuing and caring for orphaned baby elephants in Sri Lanka.

Nestled within Udawalawe National Park, located between the Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, the sanctuary provides a safe refuge for these vulnerable animals.

Here, the young elephants receive the care and support they desperately need after losing their mothers.

The facility looks after the calves until they are ready to return to the wild, ensuring they are fully prepared to thrive in their natural environment.

The Elephant Transit Home has helped more than 250 elephants, nurturing them until they are five years old—at which point they can live independently in the wild.
