Anne the Elephant Finds Joy in Her New Sandpit as Celebrities and Royals Support Sanctuary Campaign

Just two days into her new home, Anne the elephant seems to have been living there for years.

After enduring months of severe mistreatment by a circus trainer, Anne is now enjoying her new life at Longleat Safari Park, where she delights in playing with sand and exploring her new, oversized toys.

Her new 13-acre enclosure at Longleat is set to become Europe’s first elephant sanctuary, thanks to a campaign spearheaded by the Daily Mail. This initiative has gained widespread support from both the public and celebrities.

The X Factor judge Simon Cowell was among the first to contribute significantly. “I have been following Anne’s story closely,” said Cowell. “I appreciate the Mail for bringing this terrible cruelty to light and hope it will benefit other needy animals. I encourage everyone to support this cause.”

Amanda Holden of Britain’s Got Talent expressed her sadness over Anne’s hardships. “It was deeply upsetting to learn about Anne’s suffering. These magnificent animals deserve our respect, and I’m pleased she finally receives the care she deserves.”

Princess Michael of Kent has also voiced her full support. A spokesperson for the princess stated, “She is completely behind this initiative and considers it a very important cause.”

Disturbing images from Animal Defenders International exposed the mistreatment Anne faced at the hands of Romanian groom Nikolae, who worked for Bobby Roberts Super Circus.

Now relocated to Longleat, Anne will soon benefit from a specially designed £1 million enclosure with a swimming pool, central heating, and secure fencing. The park plans to extend this haven to accommodate up to five other rescued elephants.

Lord Bath, the owner of the Wiltshire reserve, expressed his joy at Anne’s swift adjustment to her new surroundings. “We are thrilled that Anne has settled in so well at Longleat,” he said.
