A blind elephant named Ploy Thong experienced a touching moment when she was introduced to her new herd for the first time after years of hardship.
In the moving footage of Elephant Nature Park in Thailand, Ploy Thong sends gentle, low vibrations to signal her presence.
The other elephants quickly took notice, approaching the newcomer and reaching out with their trunks to greet her with care and affection.
This emotional encounter marked a significant turning point for Ploy Thong, who had endured years of suffering before being rescued by the Save Elephant Foundation.
At around 30 years old, she had lost her sight in both eyes and spent most of her life in challenging conditions.
For 16 years, Ploy Thong was forced to carry tourists in the Pattaya region of Thailand. Since she couldn’t see, she relied on her trunk to guide her along the routes. Before that, she had been part of a circus, further adding to her difficult life.
Her rescue was set in motion when staff from the Save Elephant Foundation noticed her while freeing another elephant, Bua Keaw.
Recognizing her distress, they negotiated her release with her owner and brought her to Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, where she could finally live peacefully.
“Ploy Thong is another elephant we rescued,” said staff members at Elephant Nature Park. “She was blind in both eyes and transported tourists daily, saddled from dawn to dusk. She had to use her trunk to navigate the way.”
Now safe and free, Ploy Thong’s new journey begins as she bonds with her new companions in the sanctuary.
