Decade-Long Journey: Photographer’s Tribute to African Elephants through Captivating Images

Australian photographer Bobby-Jo Clow has dedicated the past ten years to capturing the beauty and majesty of African elephants in their natural habitats.

Since snapping her first photo of an elephant in Kenya a decade ago, she has traversed Africa, creating an impressive portfolio of the continent’s largest land animals.

Bobby-Jo, now 33, has focused on documenting the daily lives of elephant herds as they roam, feed, and rest in the wild.

Since 2004, she has frequently visited both southern and eastern Africa, committed to portraying these creatures in their unspoiled environments.

Currently, Bobby-Jo is curating a selection of 200 of her most remarkable elephant photos for a book titled Reflections of Elephants.

The book will pair her images with essays, poems, and reflections from writers, poets, conservationists, and elephant experts worldwide.

Recalling her passion for wildlife, Bobby-Jo shared: “I have been fascinated by wild animals since childhood, growing up with David Attenborough’s voice on television. After photographing my first elephant, I was captivated by Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, and people—especially her elephants.”

Bobby-Jo highlighted the threats facing elephants, noting, “A wild elephant is killed every 15 minutes. In the time it takes to enjoy a cup of tea, a beautiful elephant may be lost forever somewhere in Africa or Asia.”

To give back to the animals she has documented, Bobby-Jo partnered with writer Dave Blissett to create a project to support elephant conservation. Through her upcoming book, Bobby-Jo aims to raise funds to aid these threatened creatures.

“Many inspiring individuals have contributed their time and work to this project, and one hundred percent of the book’s royalties will support the Askari Project in southern Kenya, dedicated to preserving wildlife, especially elephants,” she explained. “Each dollar raised offsets production costs, allowing more funds to be directed toward elephant conservation.”

Through her work, Bobby-Jo hopes to increase awareness of the challenges elephants face and support efforts to protect these majestic animals for future generations.
