A hungry elephant in southern India was captured on camera, standing on its hind legs to reach a jackfruit at the top of a 25-foot tree.
The impressive moment occurred earlier this month in Silent Valley National Park, located in Kerala’s Palakkad District.
Footage shows the elephant using its trunk to grab the fruit while flapping its ears to cool off in the sweltering 93-degree (34°C) heat.
Initially, the elephant is seen eating food from the ground before noticing the jackfruit high up in the tree.
With its mouth open and eyes fixed on the prize, it stands on its hind legs, resting its front legs against the tree trunk.
After stretching its trunk to snatch the fruit, the elephant successfully breaks it off and allows it to drop to the ground, where it enjoys its snack.
Indian elephants, which can reach heights of up to 11.5 feet and weigh around 5,518 pounds, are known for their resourcefulness in finding food. This particular encounter was filmed on May 19.
