Newborn Elephant Joins Herd at San Diego Zoo Safari Park

A baby elephant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park has officially joined the rest of the herd.

In a video shared by the zoo this week, the calf, named Umzula-zuli, can be seen taking his first cautious steps in the enclosure while his mother, Ndula, closely watches over him.

According to zookeeper Mindy Albright, the other 12 elephants curiously greeted the new arrival, sniffing the young calf and trumpeting their welcome.

Umzula-zuli, a healthy male African elephant, was born on Sunday, August 12, coinciding with World Elephant Day.
