Photographer Dedicates a Decade to Capturing Stunning Images of African Elephants

Australian photographer Bobby-Jo Clow has devoted her time to photographing wild elephants across Africa, creating a mesmerizing collection of images showcasing these majestic creatures for the past ten years.

Since snapping her first elephant photo in Kenya a decade ago, Bobby-Jo has made regular trips to southern and eastern Africa, capturing the daily lives of elephants as they feed, rest, and roam their natural environment.

The 33-year-old photographer has now carefully selected 200 of her best shots from thousands of images, with plans to publish a book titled Reflections of Elephants.

The book will not only feature Bobby-Jo’s striking photography but also written reflections from writers, poets, conservationists, and elephant experts from around the world.

Reflecting on her journey, Bobby-Jo shared: “I’ve been fascinated by wildlife since I was young. Like many children, I grew up listening to David Attenborough’s voice on TV. After photographing my first African elephant, I was captivated by Africa’s wildlife, landscapes, and people—especially the elephants.”

However, Bobby-Jo’s passion for elephants extends beyond photography. With poaching threatening their survival, she emphasized the urgency of the situation: “A wild elephant is killed every 15 minutes. By the time you finish your next cup of coffee, another elephant will have been lost in Africa or Asia.”

To give back to the elephants she has come to admire, Bobby-Jo teamed up with writer Dave Blissett to create a project that raises awareness and supports conservation efforts. They are fundraising to help cover the costs of producing Reflections of Elephants.

Bobby-Jo explained that everyone involved in the project has donated their time and work to make it a reality, with 100% of the book’s royalties going to the Askari Project in southern Kenya, which focuses on wildlife preservation, especially elephants.

“Every dollar we raise brings us closer to publishing the book, which means more funds can be directed to protecting these incredible animals,” she added.

Through her work, Bobby-Jo hopes to share the beauty of elephants and help safeguard their future.
