Special needs cats frequently encounter multiple obstacles that complicate their lives. Booger Roux, an extraordinary cat, fell into a comparable situation. In the summer of 2014, he was discovered all by himself, with little hope of survival. It appeared that Booger Roux’s future was bleak. Nevertheless, fate held bigger aspirations for this small kitten, who only had to show his relentless determination to triumph over adversity.
Booger Roux came into our lives at just the right time, bringing us a sense of relief from the stress we were going through, as relayed by his owner. As devoted cat parents, my husband and I have considered our feline companions as our own children for over twenty years, as we were unable to have kids of our own.
Booger Roux seamlessly became a part of our existing cat family, and they all absolutely adore playing with him. Some of them even take on the role of protective guardians, showering him with extra attention whenever he needs it.
Our vet suspects that Booger Roux faced nutritional deficiencies while still in his mother’s womb, as she was a stray cat in our neighborhood and seemed malnourished. After a year-long effort, we successfully managed to capture her and provide her with proper care at the vet’s. In the year 2015, we finally reunited her with her beloved offspring, Booger Roux.
In a truly remarkable twist of fate, Mr. Roux has recently been crowned as America’s Most Adored Pet. The competition was fierce, with countless adorable and heartwarming feline contenders, but Booger Roux managed to come out on top. I had the pleasure of chatting with his owner, Lynne, to learn more about this loveable cat, whose expressive eyes seem to tell a story of their own.
When questioned about how Booger Roux became a part of their family, Lynne shared that they stumbled upon him one scorching summer afternoon as a special needs cat. The poor little creature was severely malnourished, weighing a mere 8 ounces, when they discovered him on their back deck in July 2014. Since that day, Booger Roux has defied all expectations and overcome countless obstacles.
How did you come up with his name?
When it comes to naming our beloved pets, my partner took charge, and Booger Roux was the name that stuck. According to my partner, Allan, he believes that if you give a cat enough time, their true name will be revealed to you. And that’s exactly what happened with Booger Roux.
What is Booger Roux’s personality like?
Booger Roux is a ball of energy, always eager for some action. However, he does have a few unique quirks that set him apart. Unlike most cats, he doesn’t meow in the usual way. Instead, he has his own distinct way of vocalizing. Additionally, he requires extra comfort and soothing, often finding solace in a ThunderShirt, particularly during the night. Despite these idiosyncrasies, he is incredibly intelligent and has a knack for communicating his desires. Whether it’s wanting to play with his favorite string toy or taking a spin on his beloved Cat Wheel, Booger Roux knows exactly how to get his point across to us.
Do any other furry friends reside with Booger Roux?
Booger Roux has a wonderful family of 13 siblings who were all rescued just like him.
What is something special about him that you would like everyone to know?
When Booger Roux was younger, our vet noticed that he had characteristics similar to Down Syndrome, which give him a unique appearance. However, this doesn’t impact his ability to be a loving companion. In fact, he has become a source of therapy for both my husband, who has a disability, and myself.
I want people to understand that looks can be deceiving when it comes to pets. Despite his distinctive appearance, Booger Roux has shown us incredible affection and love. His presence has brought us indescribable happiness, and I truly believe there is something extraordinary about him.
